Discovery of the VENDEE MINIATURE Park in Brétignolles-sur-Mer

Hello everyone,

We continue our travels in France with the discovery of a new extraordinary park: The VENDEE MINIATURE PARK.

  • Vendée Miniature Park: An Unforgettable Journey into Vendée Heritage Through Miniature Models

Nestled in the heart of the Vendée, in the commune of Talmont-Saint-Hilaire, Vendée Miniature is a must-see attraction that invites visitors on a journey to the heart of the region’s landscapes, history and traditions, while discovering the art of model making on an exceptional scale. This unique immersive space allows young and old alike to rediscover the Vendée through a series of 1/10th scale models, representing the most characteristic aspects of the region.

  • The Origin of the Project: The Passion for Modeling and the Promotion of Vendée Heritage

The Vendée Miniature exhibition was born in 2004 from the passion of a couple of seasoned model makers: Yves and Marie Françoise AUBRON, driven by the desire to share the history, landscapes and traditions of their region through the art of model making. The project was designed to celebrate the Vendée in all its diversity: from the beaches of the Vendée coast to the typical villages of the interior, including the rich history of the French Revolution and the traditional trades that have marked the region.

Founded by enthusiasts of model railways, historical reconstructions and local crafts, Vendée Miniature is a true showcase of the Vendée, where the art of miniaturization combines with a cultural and educational approach. The aim was to create a place where you can admire animated scenes that pay tribute to the beauty of Vendée nature and its fascinating history, while offering a fun and immersive experience.

  • A Journey Through the Landscapes of Vendée

  • 1:10 Scale Miniature Models: Amazing Realism

The main asset of Vendée Miniature lies in the fidelity of the models that allow to recreate landscapes, scenes of daily life and historical events on a scale of 1:10. This allows a captivating overview of the miniature scenes, where every detail is carefully worked, from the furniture of the houses to the characters, including the vehicles, the vegetation, and the small animals that populate the models.

Visitors can explore settings where animation is omnipresent: trains running on railway tracks, boats sailing on water, miniature characters walking, talking, fishing or working. The magic of the place lies in this constant animation, which brings the models to life and allows you to travel in time and space through the different themes of the Vendée.

  • Rural Landscapes and Traditional Villages

One of the first sections of Vendée Miniature is dedicated to the rural landscapes and typical villages of the Vendée. The small Vendée dwellings, with their stone facades, tiled roofs and flower gardens, are faithfully recreated. There are animated scenes of life, representing moments of daily life in these villages. From local markets to farms, from the locks of the Poitevin marshes to the vineyards of the interior, every detail of the rural landscapes of the Vendée is captured with striking realism.

The landscapes, which mix fields, forests, ponds and hamlets, are brought to life thanks to scenes of life such as animals in motion, farm vehicles traveling on rural roads, or people engaged in daily tasks such as picking fruit, gardening or repairing their house.

  • The Vendée Coast and its Seaside Resorts

The Vendée, with its coastline lined with fine sandy beaches, is another of Vendée Miniature’s highlights. The attraction allows visitors to discover the region’s beautiful seaside resorts, such as Les Sables-d’Olonne, Saint-Jean-de-Monts or La Tranche-sur-Mer, on a small scale. These miniature models show lively scenes of coastal life: walks on the beach, fishermen mending their nets, sailboats sailing on the ocean, and fishermen bringing in their catch. Visitors can see reconstructions of small fishermen’s huts, colourful houses on the water’s edge and dunes that seem to come to life under a bright sky. The fishing ports are also perfectly reproduced, with fishing boats bobbing on the waves and lively scenes depicting port life.

  • The Poitevin Marshes: A Unique Ecosystem Recreated on a Reduced Scale

The Poitevin marsh, nicknamed the “Green Venice”, is another great inspiration for the Vendée Miniature models. In this area, visitors can admire scenes representing life in this unique marsh, with its canals, locks, fishermen’s houses and wooden huts. The animation of the boats gliding on the water, as well as characters cultivating or maintaining the banks of the marsh, immerse visitors in a natural environment where fauna and flora meet.

The vehicles and animals that inhabit this miniature landscape create a link between man and nature, while highlighting the water management techniques specific to this region.

  • Historical Reenactments: The History of the Vendée in Miniature

  • The Wars of the Vendée: A Powerful Historical Evocation

Another fascinating part of Vendée Miniature is dedicated to the major historical events of the region. The Vendée was the scene of many important events, notably during the Wars of the Vendée during the French Revolution. The models of Vendée Miniature pay homage to these events by recreating battle scenes and reconstructions of the revolutionary era.

Visitors can discover scenes of military camps, scenes of daily life during the Revolution, and other historical reconstructions of great fidelity. These models are animated in such a way as to tell a story, offering fascinating visual perspectives.

  • Traditional Vendée Trades

Another important aspect of Vendée Miniature is the promotion of the region's traditional and artisanal trades. The Vendée, a land of crafts and traditions, is represented through miniature scenes where we see artisans at work: tanners, potters, carpenters, blacksmiths and many others. These trades are illustrated in such a way as to bring to life the economic history of the region, which is largely based on its ancestral know-how.

Visitors can thus observe very detailed work scenes, with miniature characters sculpting, forging, working wood or making traditional products such as Vendée galettes or carved wooden furniture. These reconstructions show the importance of these trades in the local culture and allow you to learn while having fun.

  • A Fun and Educational Experience for the Whole Family

Vendée Miniature is not only a place of observation, but also an educational space where young and old can discover the region while having fun. Interactive terminals and information panels offer detailed explanations on the different scenes and elements of each model. These allow you to understand the history, geography and local traditions while remaining a fun activity.

Children can marvel at the animated scenes and take part in interactive games, while adults will appreciate the finesse of the models and the ingenuity of the model making. The park also offers creative workshops where young visitors can learn about model making or making small models, thus encouraging creativity.
